Shift Interlock: Testing and Inspection



- Shifting out of PARK should not be possible when the key is removed, or in LOCK (1) or in ACC (2), regardless of the brake pedal position.
- Shifting out of PARK should not be possible while applying normal force on the shift lever and ignition key is in ON (3) position, unless the foot brake pedal is depressed at least 1/2 inch.
- Shifting between any gears, NEUTRAL or into PARK may be done without depressing foot brake pedal with ignition switch in ACC (2), ON (3), or START (4) positions. DIAGNOSTIC CHART
Brake/Transmission Shift Interlock Mechanism - Operation — BTSI Override
- "Turn the key to the ACC or ON position.
- Using a small screwdriver remove the override cap from shifter bezel (right side of gate in D).
- Insert in hole a key or screwdriver and depress.
- While the override is depressed, move the shifter out of the PARK position.
- Re-insert the override cap on shifter bezel.
