Procedures
Front Axle - 186FIA — Installation
△ CAUTION
If cover is not installed within 3 to 5 minutes, the cover must be cleaned and new RTV applied. Failure to follow these instructions will result in a leak.



- Clean cover and mating surface.
- Apply a bead of Mopar Axle RTV sealant (1) or equivalent to the differential cover (2).
- Install differential housing cover (1) and tighten bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 19-26 Nm (14-19 ft. lbs.).
- Install oil filter drain tray (1) and tighten nut to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.).
- Install vent hose (2) on differential cover with new clamp.
- Install front axle bracket bolts (2) and nuts. Tighten nuts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
- Tighten front axle bracket cradle nut (1) to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
- Install skid plate.
Front Axle - 186FIA — Removal



- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Remove skid plate.
- Remove drain plug (2) from housing (3) and drain fluid.
- Remove oil filter drain tray (1) and vent hose from differential cover.
- Loosen front axle bracket bolt (1).
- Remove front axle bracket bolts (2) from the axle and let bracket hang forward of the axle.
- Remove differential cover bolts and remove cover.
Rear Axle - 8 1/4 — Installation
△ CAUTION
If cover is not installed within 3 to 5 minutes, the cover must be cleaned and new RTV applied. Failure to follow these instructions will cause a leak.
- Apply a bead of orange Mopar(TM) Axle RTV sealant (1) or equivalent to the housing cover (2).
- Install cover and identification tag. Tighten cover bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
- Fill differential to specifications.
- Install fill plug.
Rear Axle - 8 1/4 — Removal
- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Remove cover bolts.
- Remove cover and drain lubricant.

COVER-DIFFERENTIAL
1. With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist. 2. Remove skid plate. 3. Remove drain plug (2) from housing (3) and drain fluid.
4. Remove oil filter drain tray (1) and vent hose from differential cover.
5. Loosen front axle bracket bolt (1). 6. Remove front axle bracket bolts (2) from the axle and let bracket hang forward of the axle. 7. Remove differential cover bolts and remove cover.



COVER-DIFFERENTIAL
1. Clean cover and mating surface. 2. Apply a bead of Mopar Axle RTV sealant (1) or equivalent to the differential cover (2).

3. Install differential housing cover (1) and tighten bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 19-26 N.m (14-19 ft. lbs.).
4. Install oil filter drain tray (1) and tighten nut to 23 N.m (200 in. lbs.). 5. Install vent hose (2) on differential cover with new clamp.
6. Install front axle bracket bolts (2) and nuts. Tighten nuts to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.). 7. Tighten front axle bracket cradle nut (1) to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.). 8. Install skid plate.
BUSHING-AXLE




COVER-DIFFERENTIAL
1. With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist. 2. Remove cover bolts. 3. Remove cover and drain lubricant.

COVER-DIFFERENTIAL
