Axle Shaft Assembly: Specifications

SPECIFICATIONS
Half Shaft - Installation




- Apply a light coat of wheel bearing grease on the female splines of the inner C/V joint.
- Clean hub bearing bore and apply a light coat of wheel bearing grease.
- Install half shaft (1) in axle and push firmly to engage the snap ring.
- Pull out on the steering knuckle (2) and push the half shaft (1) through the knuckle and hub bearing.
- Install upper control arm on steering knuckle and tighten ball joint nut to specifications.
- Align clevis (1) with lower control arm. Install lower clevis (1) and tighten nut (2) to specifications.
- Install tie rod end (1) in steering knuckle (2) and tighten nut to specifications.
- Install stabilizer bar link and tie rod end.
- Install half shaft (2) hub nut (1) and tighten to specifications.
Half Shaft - Removal





- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Remove brake caliper and rotor.
- Remove nut (1) from half shaft (2).
- Remove sensor (1) from hub bearing (2).
- Remove stabilizer link from stabilizer bar.
- Remover tie rod end (1) nut and remove tie rod from steering knuckle (2).
- Remove clevis bracket (1) lower nut (2) and bolt.
- Remove upper ball joint nut and separate upper control arm from steering knuckle.
- Pull out on the steering knuckle and push half shaft (1) out of the hub bearing and knuckle (2).
- With a pry bar remove the half shaft from the axle.
